Looking for a free blog creating site. (I'm unhappy with Blogger).?
I was trying to start a blog on Blogger. I thought it was pretty great at first. Then as my posts got more complex I noticed I could not directly insert (via copy+paste) images into the dialogue box Blogger gives. I also started preparing my posts in Word and I noticed my text setting don't translate in Blogger.
In short terms, I need a free, general blogging site that always me to copy and paste my posts in the EXACT way I originally posted them.

They each have their own servers. For example, Blogger.com is hosted by Google themselves. They are such big companies, they can afford to have their own servers. For more information, you can try going to http://godaddy.com and search there sites that you've named and they will give you details on who owns the domain name and information on it. For example:
http://who.godaddy.com/WhoIs.aspx?domain...
Reply:Make a whois query in http://www.dnstuff.com about the site you want to get details.

i've had this blog since 1999 and it's vanished.
i haven't changed anything recently
does anyone have any recommendations for software so i'm not depending
on blogger anymore? this is gravely upsetting for me, having been one
of the 1st users of blogger and to watch it go down like this.
i posted and the errors returning say :
org.apache.commons.net.io.CopyStreamExce... IOException caught
while copying.
www/blog/rss.xml failed to upload file: rss.xml with reason: 521 "/
home/www/X/blog" directory exists
www/blog/atom.xml failed to upload file: atom.xml with reason: 521 "/
home/www/X/blog" directory exists
www/blog/labels/X.html failed to upload file:X.html
with reason: 521 "/home/www/supah/blog/labels" directory exists

This is why I tell people NOT to use Blogger, though you didn't know it at the time, but they're horrible. Let's face it, when you don't have control of your site 100%, or your database, where all the posts and comments are stored, you're screwed to be blunt.
I would see if you can hook yourself up over at http://wordpress.com set yourself up a new blog, and try and import your posts and comments from Blogger to WP. IT may work. If not, then I'd be on the horn to Blogger and getting them out of the armchairs and finding out what happened to your posts.
If you have any questions, feel free to hit me up and I'll try and help you out.
I looked through and your archives are there, so go to http://wordpress.com, set yourself up with some web space and the WordPress blog/CMS system (one of the best out there totally NON-DEPENDANT of Blogger) and import all your info.

Reply:The content relating to a blog made using blogger is stored in a blogger database.
If you have hosted it on your own website.. hosting space... the data would be written to your web site.
If there is a problem you can try recovering the blog ....
Set a blogspot url for your blog from the blogger settings and republish the blog.
that way you can ensure the existance of your old posts..
Install a blog software like wordpress on your website ...
Subsequently you may move your old posts to the new blog

What is the advantage of having an outside host for blogger?
Right now, my blogger site is hosted by blogger, and has the blogspot term in the url. I'm using the site as a photoblog. What advantage would there be of having it hosted outside of blogger besides the ability to get rid of the 'blogspot' term in the url? Would there be any disadvantages?

There is theory that google ranks and checks blogger blogs more often, but other than that there is no downside. Outside hosts for blogs means you are not limited to their software or design. There are many better softwares for blogs and much better looking designs. The internet is the limit!
